LocalCipher Clipper privacy policy
Last updated 3 October 2026
LocalCipher Clipper saves a web page, or a passage you select, into an unlocked LocalCipher vault on your Mac. The same clip is used by the Chrome extension and the Firefox add-on.
What the extension handles
When you click the toolbar button, choose Clip to LocalCipher from the page menu, or press Alt+Shift+L, the extension reads the current page. It reads the title, the page address, the published date when the page provides one, and the article text or the text you selected. This is website content.
The extension does this only for the page you chose to clip. It does not read your browsing history, and it does not run on pages in the background.
How that content is used
The extension copies the clip to the clipboard on your Mac and opens LocalCipher. The LocalCipher app saves the clip into the vault you have unlocked. The clip stays on that Mac.
The extension does not send the page to a server. It does not receive your vault key and does not write vault files. It does not sell the clip, share it with anyone else, or use it for advertising, credit, or any purpose other than saving the note you asked for.
The clip remains on the clipboard until LocalCipher reads it or you copy something else.
What the extension does not collect
The extension does not collect personally identifiable information, health information, financial or payment information, authentication information, personal communications, location, web history, or user activity. It has no account and no analytics.
Storage
The extension does not keep its own copy of the clip. A saved note is stored by LocalCipher in your vault. Removing the extension does not delete notes already saved in a vault. How the app handles notes is described on the LocalCipher privacy section of this site.
Changes
If this handling changes, this page will be updated before that change is published.
